== Biography ==Nellie was born in Bristol Connecticut during the Civil War. Her parents were Thomas Atkins and Mary Nephew. Thomas had been married before and had 2 children with his first wife who died. He appeared to have joined a Union Army unit and left his children with his parents. Where he met Mary Nephew is a mystery. She was living in Potter County ,PA. where her parents had moved. It appears that Mary was living with Thomas's parents on their farm when Nellie was born? Thomas may have been serving in the Civil war at this time. After the war Thomas and his wife Mary lived on his parents farm with his 2 children from his first wife and children born with Mary Nephew. Thomas died in 1876 and is buried in Connecticut. Mary eventually returns to Potter County, PA. with her children Nellie and Jonas. She was working for a widowed man who had children and eventually they married and had a child or 2? So Nellie has 3 or 4 half siblings as well as 2 brothers. It appears Nellie's Nephew grandparents took one of her brothers. He ended up married and passed in Eastern Ohio. Brother Jonas Burdette Atkins lived with Nellie and Wilbur most of his adult life and is listed as a laborer. He and mother Mary are buried in the Sweden Hill Cemetery too with no visible markers. Mother Mary's second husband is buried with his first wife in the cemetery. I have seen 3 different middle initials for Nellie. The middle initial M is on her Find A Grave memorial and one of her Social Security Records. Perhaps it is for Mary? There are a few mistakes in her death certificate information. It has her born in Pennsylvania, It has her father as Henry Atkins, it has her mother Mary Nephew as born in Connecticut.
