== Biography == Henry was the youngest child of George Washington and Lydia Martin Nichols. He was born in Herman Wisconsin in 1871. His parents were from Unadilla, New York where they were married and started their family in the late 1840's. After George's parents and Lydia's father passed they moved westward across New York and eventually ended in Wisconsin. Henry's older siblings were married or getting married by the time he was born and most stayed in Wisconsin. His parents moved back east with him and his next youngest sister. They purchased land in Roulette, Potter County, PA. about 1 mile off the main road. Here George and Henry built a log home likely similar to what George had lived in in Unadilla with his parents. Henry married Aleta Goodwin July 3, 1894 and they moved in with Henry's parents log home. Soon George and Henry started building a frame house near the parent's log home where Henry and Aleta would live and raise their family. Henry's mom Lydia had passed. Henry's dad George Washington passed from cancer in 1899 after the birth of Henry and Aleta's daughter Helen and son Wesley. I was told some of this by Henry's youngest son Howard Nichols who was only 14 when his dad passed in 1934. Henry had been struggling with stomach problems for some years. After all the children were grown and left the homestead Aleta started living with her married children and the old home sat empty. It never had electricity run to it. Howard told us about life on the homestead. They had chickens cows and other animals. They traded eggs at a local store for other goods. In a letter to his uncle Wesley Martin about 1903 he described his farm and young family. He mentioned planting fruit / apple trees and was very proud of his farm and family. Howard said his father Henry used the old log home as a tool shed after his father passed. I had believed that Lydia passed after Henry and Aleta were married. If the death date for her on Find a Grave is correct than she passed before they were married. Howard said he was back visiting the farm after it had been vacant and found a picture of George Washington Nichols his grandfather hanging in the log cabin / shed where his father had kept tools and equipment. That is how the picture that is on other sites came to be. He shared it with with Anita Van Zile Peterson I believe first. She was the one who started asking him about the Nichols and working on the Nichols line. He later gave copies of the picture to my mom , his niece, and I. There is some differences of opinion on George Washington's parents and ancestors.
